Assimilation of wall-pressure measurements in high-speed flow over a cone

چکیده

A nonlinear ensemble-variational data assimilation is performed in order to estimate the unknown flow field over a slender cone at Mach 6, from isolated wall-pressure measurements. The cost functional accounts for discrepancies spectra and total intensity between experiment prediction using direct numerical simulations, as well our relative confidence measurements estimated state. We demonstrate robustness of predicted by propagation posterior statistics. approach provides unique first look beyond sensor data, rigorously role nonlinearity, unlike previous efforts that adopted ad hoc inflow syntheses. Away wall, two- three-dimensional assimilated states both show rope-like structures, qualitatively similar independent schlieren visualizations. Despite this resemblance, even though planar second modes are most unstable upstream, waves must be included accurately reproduce recorded AFRL Ludwieg Tube facility. results highlight importance three-dimensionality base-state distortion on instability experiment, motivate future probe nature field.

Turbulent Wind Flow over a High Speed Train

Strong cross-winds may overturn trains, so an understanding of the fluid mechanics is important. To facilitate the proper estimation of the probability of a train overturning, accurate data for the aerodynamic rolling moment about the lee rail is essential. (Of course, many other parameters are required.) The flow of a turbulent cross-wind over a train moving across an embankment is complex, an...

Heat transfer in MHD nanofluid flow over a cone and plate in the presence of heat source/sink

In this study, we presented a mathematical model for analyzing the heat source/sink effect on magnetohydrodynamic two-dimensional ferrofluid flow past a cone and a vertical plate in the presence of volume fraction of ferrous nanoparticles. The governing partial differential equations are transformed as ordinary differential equations making use of similarity solutions and solved numerically wit...

Numerical Study of Reynolds Number Effects on Flow over a Wall-Mounted Cube in a Channel Using LES

Turbulent flow over wall-mounted cube in a channel was investigated numerically using Large Eddy Simulation. The Selective Structure Function model was used to determine eddy viscosity that appeared in the subgrid scale stress terms in momentum equations. Studies were carried out for the flows with Reynolds number ranging from 1000 to 40000. To evaluate the computational results, data was compa...

Direct Numerical Simulations of High Speed Flow over Cavity

Direct numerical simulations are used to investigate the effect of Mach number on the unsteady flow of an open cavity. The implicit solution is obtained for the compressible Navier-Stokes Equations using compact sixth-order spatial differencing coupled with tenth-order implicit filters. Results for transonic and subsonic flow over a two dimensional cavity are presented for the sound pressure le...
